Since 1905, the pharmacy program has allowed students to earn their degree with innovative study in a full-time, traditional campus setting. Focus on medication therapy management and patient-centered care as you expand your knowledge using the latest pharmaceutical technology in our modern pharmacy skills labs.

Distance Pathway

As the nation’s first accredited online PharmD program, started in 2001, our innovative distance learning pathway covers the same material as the traditional campus program but offers you the flexibility of completing coursework using distance education technology. The instructive portion of the distance pathway is taught on a semester basis, with some elements of the distance pathway being taught in a synchronous (live) fashion while the laboratory courses are conducted on campus during two-week summer sessions.

Our Phoenix expansion is in partnership with the Creighton University Arizona Health Education Alliance that consists of Creighton University, Dignity Health St. Joseph’s Hospital and Medical Center, District Medical Group and Valleywise Health to better serve the underserved populations of Arizona.

Admission Requirements

To apply, you must submit all materials through the Pharmacy College Application Service (PharmCAS) including:

  • An official transcript from each institution you have attended and/or are currently attending.
  • Two letters of recommendation.

Personal interviews are required in the admission process. Qualified applicants will be notified via email if they are selected for an interview. Also note that the PCAT is not required.

Scholarships and Aid

Admitted Student Scholarship Opportunities

The majority of an incoming PharmD class are awarded scholarships from the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions. The scholarships hold a max of $80,000 over the course of your degree. All admitted candidates will automatically be considered at the time of qualified admission, no additional application is needed.

Additional Creighton Scholarship Opportunities

Once enrolled in the School of Pharmacy and Health Professions, PharmD students can apply for additional scholarships on an annual basis. These scholarships range from $500 to full tuition in value and can be stacked on top of the initial merit award.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the PCAT required for admission to the Doctor of Pharmacy program?

No, submission of a Pharmacy College Admission Test (PCAT) is not required to apply to Creighton’s Doctor of Pharmacy program.

Is Creighton’s Doctor of Pharmacy program accredited?

Creighton’s Doctor of Pharmacy program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE).

Do I need a bachelor's degree to apply to Pharmacy School?

No, a degree is not required to be considered for the Doctor of Pharmacy program. Applicants are required to complete 63 semester hours (or 94.5 quarter hours) of specific prerequisite coursework. Applicants must earn a C or higher in each of their prerequisite classes and have completed the general chemistry sequence for their application to be considered.

How long is the Doctor of Pharmacy program?

The Doctor of Pharmacy program is a full-time, four-year program beginning in August each year. The first three years consist of didactic coursework, Pharmacy Skills Labs, and Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs). The fourth and final year is comprised of 40 weeks of Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPEs) from June until May (three semesters).

How does experiential education work?

Our experiential education comprises approximately 30 percent of the curriculum and includes Introductory and Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs and APPEs). Our Office of Experiential Education faculty and staff work with over 1,000 pharmacy practice sites across the country that provide high quality learning and mentorship to our students. IPPEs are completed across the first three years of the program and include 24 hours of shadowing and three-week experiences in a community and hospital setting. In the final year of the program, students complete eight, five-week rotations in various pharmacy settings including community, medication therapy management or drug information, hospital, acute care, ambulatory care with an option of over 40 electives.

Are any dual degrees available?

Yes, we offer two dual degree options for pharmacy students that can give graduates a competitive edge in the workforce and career options. Doctor of Pharmacy candidates are also able to earn a Master of Business Administration (PharmD/MBA) or a MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences (PharmD/MS in Pharmaceutical Sciences).

As a distance student, how many times do I need to be on-campus?

Distance students are required to come to campus in Omaha, Nebraska a total of five times. The first is a week of welcome and orientation before the pharmacy program begins. Then, distance students will be on-campus two weeks each summer of the program for hands-on Pharmacy Skills Labs. Lastly, distance students will come back to campus their fifth and final time for hooding and commencement ceremonies in May of their graduating year.

I am interested in attending Pharmacy School in Phoenix, but what is a Hybrid Pathway?

In our hybrid pathway, students are able to stream the didactic lectures live from our Omaha campus or, watch the recordings later in the day. Essentially, students can participate as the lectures happen, or watch the recording at a different time depending on what works for them. Students then will come to our Phoenix campus a few days a week for in-person labs. The Phoenix campus was built in 2021 and offers state-of-the-art facilities to our Pharmacy students as they complete the clinical lab portion of the curriculum.
